Dennis James Irwin

Dennis James Irwin, age 78, of Peoria, passed away at 7:25 AM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at his residence.
He was born and raised in Peoria on September 3, 1947, a son to Harry and Vivian (Poplette) Irwin. He graduated with the Class of 1965 and went on to obtain his master's degree from Bradley University. On June 13, 1970 he married Pam Swift. Dennis later married Nancy Stockton on September 20, 2001. Dennis dedicated his life to education and to the people of his community. He spent 35 years inspiring and supporting students-10 years at Peoria Central High School and 25 years at Illinois Central College. His colleagues and students remember him for his unwavering belief in the power of learning.
A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, Dennis rarely missed a game and was always ready to celebrate a big win. When he wasn't cheering on his teams, he could be found tending to his yard, tinkering in his garage, or finding satisfaction in a well-detailed car. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing with friends and spending long afternoons outdoors. Above all, Dennis cherished time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of Peoria; mother of his children Pam Isom of Dunlap; two children: Lori (Jason) Vietti of Chillicothe and Jamie (Trevor) Holmes of Peoria; two stepchildren: Erika (Benjamin) Schwiderski of Washington and Daniel (Courtney) Stockton of Washington; and eight grandchildren: Jacob, Teegan, Paxton, Greysn, Rob, Nala, Lana, and Harper.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Dennis's memory may be made to Pet Pack Rescue.
