Surviving are his two sons, Dirk (Lisa) Monk of Deshler, Nebraska and Zach (Kendra) Monk of Gilman; five grandchildren, MaKayla and Kaleb Monk of Deshler, Nebraska; Nolan, Trevor, and Tyler Monk of Gilman; siblings, Sonja Brauer of Aurora, and David (Alice) Monk of Danforth. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Naomi Knapp and Hermine Devine.
Dennis graduated from Gilman High School and Midstate College and then served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. He was employed at CSL Behring in Bradley for over 25 years. Dennis was an avid music lover and sports fan. His passion for sports prompted him to become actively involved in youth baseball with his sons and establish the Danforth Athletic Association, a youth basketball league that he ran from 1991-1997.
Memorials can be made to the Iroquois West Youth Baseball Softball League at PO Box 63, Gilman, IL 60938.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.
