Dianne Shelley, age 66 (Affectionately known as "Lady D"), passed away peacefully on Oct 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to family, faith, and education. Born in Farmville, North Carolina and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, Dianne was the beloved daughter of Eva Pearl Shelley and Herbert Shelley, both of whom preceded her in death. Her life reflected compassion, resilience, and deep faith. Her upbringing and her roots shaped the remarkable woman we all knew - one who gave selflessly and walked boldly in her purpose.
Dianne was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her loving sons, Lionel Shelley and Lenny Shelley (Father: Larry Roberts), and was predeceased by her cherished daughter, DeShayla Shelley. Her grandchildren, Camron and Cali Shelley, were the light of her life and a constant source of pride and joy. She also leaves behind seven siblings: Charlotte Campbell (Thomas), Herbert Shelley (Brenda), Linda Baker (Lewis), Levi Shelley (Margaret), Larry Shelley (Sandy), April Shelley Barr (Phillip), Sandra Wilson Santana, and Randy Jones (Angel), each of whom she loved deeply.
Dianne dedicated over 23 years to nurturing young minds as Head Teacher at Children's Day School. Her students, her "babies," as she lovingly called them, were at the center of her world. A lifelong learner and passionate advocate for early childhood education, she earned her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in 2000 and proudly graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services.
Dianne had a joyful, playful spirit that made her unforgettable. She loved celebrating her birthday and had a special fondness for elephants, which symbolized strength, wisdom, and loyalty. Her home was filled with elephant-themed décor, each piece a reflection of her vibrant personality. Known for her quick wit and signature catchphrases, like "What the blood!" or her famous "holy water" joke, Dianne could light up any room. Her warmth, humor, and strength left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her advice was heartfelt, and her signature greeting, calling everyone "boo", made you feel instantly loved. Wherever she went, her radiant spirit followed, making people feel seen, valued, and uplifted.
Dianne's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served in various church roles over the years, including youth leader at Miracle Faith Church, Sunday School teacher at Burning Bush Outreach Ministries, and elder and evangelist at Destiny Chasers Church. Most recently, she was a beloved member of Universal Faith Outreach Ministry, where she led the Seasoned Saints Ministry. In that role, she checked in regularly with seniors, organized joyful events & fundraisers, and ensured no one felt forgotten. Her ministry was hands-on, heart-led, and filled with love.
Dianne's impact was profound, not just because of what she did, but because of how she did it: with love, purpose, and unwavering faith. She shared God's word with grace and joy, lifting others through her ministry, her kindness, and her everyday presence. If you knew her, you couldn't help but love her.
Dianne, Lady D, Mommy, Mimi, you will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will take place on Monday October 13, 2025 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist, 29 Grove Street, Stamford, CT. 06902
