Dolores Strong

Dolores Strong, 92 of Midland passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025 with family by her side. She was born January 3, 1933 in Flint, the daughter of S. Martin and Beulah Tufts. Dolores graduated from Flint St. Mary's High School in 1950. She entered nurses training in Saginaw, where she eventually met her husband to be, Raymond D. Strong. After marriage in 1952, Dolores worked at St. Luke's Hospital for three years before leaving to raise their family. She and Ray lived in Carrollton for 10 years, then Bay City for 15 years before moving to Traverse City in 1978. Shortly thereafter, Dolores began working at Benjamin Twiggs where she stayed for 22 years in Sales and Management. In 2000, she moved to Midland and became a member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, their choir and funeral luncheon group. Dolores also volunteered at the hospital gift shop and Midland Center for the Arts gift shop, where she also served as an usher. She was an active member of the Friends Sister Euchre Club and loved the friendship and acceptance of the group.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1993, and her Mother and Father. She is survived by her five sons, Michael R. (Catherine) Strong of Midland, Scott M. (Lynn) Strong of Westphalia, Kirk D. Strong of Pinehurst NC, Bradley R. (Penny) Strong of Saginaw and Raymond D. (Kara Kelchner) Strong II of Greensboro NC. 12 Grandchildren; Peter, Emily, Daniel, Christopher, Austin, Garrett, Scott, Holly, Lisa, Bradley II, Cory and Grayson. 12 Great Grandchildren and "Special Children"; Lynn and Kirby Pettyjohn and their children, Ann and Jack.
The family is extremely grateful for the loving care of the staff at Candlestone Assisted Living and Corso Care Hospice.
Dolores's family will receive friends at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a Vigil to be held at 7 p.m.. The funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 207 Ashman Street, with the family receiving friends at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association Greater Michigan Chapter.
