Dominick "Mimi" Buonpane, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at the age of 98, in Matawan, New Jersey. Born on March 11, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, Dominick's life was characterized by his generosity, gentle spirit, and kindness that touched everyone he knew.
Mimi, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his beloved wife of over 70 years, Antoinette. Together, they built a life filled with love for their two sons, Stephen and his wife Maria, and Michael with his wife Luanne. His legacy continues through his five adoring grandchildren, Stephen, Danielle, Diane, Michael, and Amanda, and his seven great-grandchildren, Kevin, Capri, Giovanni, Siena, Gada, Isla, and Gabriel, who will miss his tender presence and cherish the memories they made with him.
Dominick's work ethic and commitment to his country were evident in his long career as a machinist with the NYC Transit Authority. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his courage and patriotism, which were displayed during his service in World War II. He valiantly fought for his country, earning a Purple Heart, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with three service stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. These accolades were a testament to his bravery and the sacrifices he made for the nation he loved so dearly.
Beyond his professional life and military service, Mimi was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in the daily crossword puzzles, immersing himself in a good book, and food shopping-always on the lookout for a sale on coffee! His happiest moments were those spent surrounded by his family, whose company he cherished above all else.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. His story of love, courage, and compassion will be recounted with fondness and pride, as we commemorate a truly remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
