Donald "just plain Don" Edward Van Scyoc, 81, passed away at home in Moundsville surrounded by loving family on December 29, 2024. Don was born on October 29, 1943, in Moundsville, the son of Edward and Ruth (Norris) Van Scyoc.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers Riley Van Scyoc and David Van Scyoc.
Don leaves behind his wife Judith Ann (Pettit) Van Scyoc; son Gerald Van Scyoc of Steubenville, OH; daughter Donna (John) Frey of Moundsville, WV; sister Betty Carrington of Moundsville, WV; brother Roger Van Scyoc of Fish Creek, WV; brother-in-law Harold Pettit of Naples FL; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Don retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in 2001. Right after he retired, he bought a brand new truck he lovingly called "Old Yeller." He enjoyed attending auctions, visiting friends and relatives, and telling long stories or ornery jokes. Don was married to Judy for 56 years, or as he would say, "She got married, he didn't." Their story is like a fairy tale, love up to the very end.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 11:00 am until time of Funeral Service at noon at CARE Funeral & Cremation Specialists-Moundsville Chapel, 1500 Second St. Procession to Riverview Cemetery for Don's interment will directly follow.
