Donald H. Aker, 93, of Belmar, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on May 8, 2025, with the love of his family and the comfort of his faith. Donald was born in Newark and a graduate of Glenridge High School. After high Donald joined the US Army and proudly served for from 1953 until 1955. After being stationed in Korea, he transferred to Japan where he met his loving wife of 64 years, Nettie Anne Peck Aker, who was also proudly serving. Just six weeks later, they married-a beautiful partnership that would last until Nettie Anne's passing in 2019. Donald lived a life marked by quiet strength, humility, and deep devotion to his family. Donald had a 38-year career with Prudential as a technician.
Together, Donald and Nettie raised their family in West Orange, NJ, before settling in Belmar in 1968, where they became beloved members of the community. Donald was the devoted father of Maryann Turnball and her husband Jody both predeceased, Fred Aker (JeanAnn), Bill Aker (Roseann), and Cliff Aker (Karel). He was also like a second father to many others welcomed into their home over the years with warmth and generosity, including Tracy and Ed Jacob, who were close family friends who maintained a special bond with Donald. His joys in life were simple and sincere sitting on his porch in Belmar, working on puzzles, and spending time with his growing family. He also enjoyed going on cruises and traveling. Donald was an active member of the Elks club and a Past Exalted Ruler, a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore, and Neptune American Legion.
He is survived by his brother, Allan Aker, nine cherished grandchildren-Christopher (Danielle), Carry (Fred), Billy (Kristen), Melissa (Travis), Nikki (Jeff), CJ (LeAnn), Kyle, Justin, and Dylan-and seven great-grandchildren, Liam, Riley, Carter, Mackenzie. Ellie, Jack, and Logan, all of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited in heaven with his beloved Nettie Anne and daughter Maryann.
