Donald (Donomite) Alexander Jr., 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Chicago, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Donald was born on March 26, 1971, in South Bend, Indiana to Donald Alexander Sr. and Marcia (Arndt) Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Sr.
Surviving are his mother, Marcia Alexander; stepmother, Donna Alexander; mother of his children, Kimberly Alexander; daughters, Clarice (Dalton) Dodson and Kyra Alexander; son, Adam Alexander and sisters, Tammy Terry, Donna (Ron) Poole, and Diana (John) Nichols.
Don dedicated 23 years of his life to XPO Logistics, where he was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Over the years, he became not only a trusted coworker but also a natural mentor and leader-someone who offered guidance, encouragement, and support to those around him. His colleagues remember him as a man who showed up every day with pride in his work and genuine respect for the people he worked alongside. He had a way of bringing people together, leading by example and with heart, and his presence made the workplace feel like family. Don was also well-loved for his sense of humor and his ability to lighten even the longest drives. With his bright spirit and kind nature, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He was a passionate Chicago sports fan, cheering on his beloved Cubs and Bears with unwavering dedication through every win, and loss. Game days were a cherished tradition for him, filled with excitement, anticipation, and the occasional heartbreak that only true fans understand. Whether he was celebrating a big play or shaking his head at a tough loss, he did it with pride, loyalty, and usually a cold beer in his hand. For him, sports were more than just games; they were moments shared with friends and family, filled with laughter, spirited conversations, and memories that will live on.
Don also cherished the camaraderie he found at the American Legion Post #303 in South Bend. It was a place where he felt at home, always surrounded by people who shared his values, his humor, and his love for good conversation. Whether he was swapping stories, catching up on life, or simply enjoying the company around him, the Legion was more than a gathering place for Don as it was a community he was proud to be part of. The memories he made within those walls will continue to be cherished by those who shared them with him.
A man of many interests, Don found happiness in the performing arts and enjoyed acting in his earlier years. His competitive nature shined wherever he was, from aiming for strikes, chasing the perfect drive on the golf course, to turning everyday moments into fun little contests with those around him. Above all else, he treasured time spent with family and friends through gathering for holidays, sharing meals, or simply being together. His presence brought laughter, warmth, and love to every room he walked into.
Don's legacy lives on through the countless memories he created and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, loyalty, humor, and the love he held for those closest to him. Though he may no longer be physically here, the impact of his life continues in the stories told about him, the values he passed on, and the warmth he brought into the world. His spirit remains with us in every smile he inspired, every life he lifted, and every moment he made brighter.
