Donald Whitney Barteet was born on January 20, 1947, to William Singleton Barteet and Mable Rushing Barteet in Shreveport, Louisiana. Don graduated in 1965 from Fair Park High School and was the class president. Don excelled in sports and was a star baseball player receiving a scholarship from LSU. He later transferred to Louisiana Tech, receiving a degree in Physical Education. Upon graduation, he coached in Bienville and Downsville before returning to Shreveport. Following in his father’s footsteps, he went to work at Barteet Plastic Pipe Company where he was employed for the past 49 years. Don also loved playing golf and was an avid player. He loved playing cards as well. Don was a kind, caring, and generous donor of his time and his resources with a special fondness for the Fair Park Alumni Class of 1965. A man who was loved by many, he could often be found playing Bridge at The Bridge House. His kind spirit and genuine smile will be deeply missed by all.
