Funeral service for Mr. Donald Ray Bartley, 74, of Sterlington, LA, will be held at 2:00PM Monday, March 25, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Rev. Paul Solice officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00PM until 2:00PM Monday, March 25, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mr. Bartley was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Monroe. He was an Air Force Veteran and then started working with Monroe Police Department in May of 1975, and retired as Assistant Chief in March of 2021. Mr. Bartley was a field training officer from 1975-1981. In 1979, he was a part time professor at Grambling State University, teaching Police Administration and Criminal Justice. Then he was promoted to Investigator. Mr. Bartley was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #14, treasurer for six years of the International Unions of Police. He was on the Fire and Police Civil Service Board, Police Representative, and was on the Police Employment and Periodic Review of Probationers as a Board member for over 12 years. Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by his son, Brett Bartley.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret Cowart Bartley; son, Brian Bartley; granddaughter, Alayna Bartley; sister Shirley Barnett and husband Mike; two nieces, Brianne Parnell and husband Chris and Tori Knighten and husband Lane; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the Monroe Police Department Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
