Donald John Boothroyd, a lifelong resident of Maynard, died peacefully Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Care One in Concord. He was eighty-five years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Long) Boothroyd who passed away in 1998.
Donald was born in Maynard, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Sullivan) Boothroyd. He grew up in Maynard and was a graduate of Maynard High School with the class of 1958. He married his wife Patricia in 1965 in St. Bridget's Church and they continued to make their home in Maynard where they would raise their family. Donald had a passion for cars and all things automotive. He was a mechanic by trade and spent much of his time building race cars and competing at racetracks throughout New England. He worked locally for many of the surrounding automotive dealerships but more recently had worked for Weetabix in Clinton. Donald was a devout Catholic and was a longtime member of St. Bridget's Church where he served as an usher. Donald also volunteered his time with the Maynard Lodge of Elks where he assisted with charitable causes throughout the years and often looked after members that were going through a trying time. More than anything, Donald loved his family, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Donald is lovingly survived by his two sons, Scott Boothroyd and his wife Christine of Winter Garden, FL and Brian Boothroyd and his wife Christina of North Chelmsford. He was the loving grandfather of Michael, Nathan, Sean and Evan. He also leaves two siblings, Paul Boothroyd of Maynard and Joan Hyden of Sudbury. Sadly, in addition to his wife Patricia, Donald was also predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, James, Marion, Patrick, Dorothy, Naomi and William.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday, May 7th from 4:00-7:00PM in the Acton Funeral Home 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte. 111) Acton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 8th at 9:00AM in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Steet Maynard. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Great Road, Maynard. Those who wish may make memorial donations in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, TN 38105
