In Loving Memory of Donald George Braswell
January 6, 1935 – July 19, 2025
Donald George Braswell, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and service.
Born on January 6, 1935, in Albany, Georgia, Don devoted more than 35 years to teaching and coaching high school students in the DeKalb County School System. He was a gifted motivator and inspired countless students with his contagious enthusiasm, discipline and heart. He was especially passionate about high school football, and, in his youth, was a fierce competitor himself on his high school, junior college and college teams. He was a proud member of the Auburn University 1957 National Championship team.
An avid outdoorsman, Don was known for his love of bass fishing. He enjoyed being out on the water, especially the lakes of Georgia and Florida; and he shared his love of nature with his family. A devoted family man, Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Greg Faulkner; his son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Mandy Braswell; and his grandchildren, Camille Faulkner, Henry Faulkner and Addison Braswell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Ann Braswell. Don met Margaret when she was assigned the seat behind him in class at Auburn. They married on Saturday, August 22, 1959, two hours before Don's Auburn graduation ceremony. They honeymooned for one night, then started teaching and coaching jobs on Monday morning at Rockmart High School. The couple shared many similar interests and enjoyed each other's company. They always remembered the commitment they made to God and to each other.
Don was a longtime member of Johns Creek Baptist Church, where he and Margaret also attended Sunday School and served on various committees. His spiritual commitment touched many lives, leaving behind a lasting witness of generosity and humility.
The family will gather with friends on Wednesday, July 23 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be held privately in Tignall, Georgia at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
As we reflect on Don's life, we remember the joy he brought to others and the enduring love he had for God, his family and his friends. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
