Throughout his career, Donald worked in construction and various odd jobs. He was a member of the Moose Club and lived in Delaware, Radnor, and Marengo, Ohio.

Donald had a wide range of hobbies and interests, including visiting flea markets, collecting coins and baseball cards, watching wrestling, and enjoying firearms and knives. He loved fishing and hunting, attending Buckeyes games with his grandson Jordan, and watching Columbus Crew matches with grandson Carlos. He also cherished visiting fairs, sampling the food, and watching Zane and Zach participate in derbies.
