Donald B. Jewell

Donald B. Jewell, 98, passed away on September 28, 2025, at Steuben Centers in Bath, NY. He was born on March 28, 1927, in West Webster, NY, to parents Vincent and Edna Van Neel Jewell. He married Esther Felker on August 4, 1945; she predeceased him in April of 2012.
Don was a former member of the Assembly of God Church, where he served faithfully for many years. He was on the official board for 29 years and served as treasurer for 19 of those years. He also held the position of president of AFGWU Local #1002 for one year. Don retired in 1987 from Corning Fiber Box / Corning Packaging Company / Weyerhaeuser after 43 years of dedicated service.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was always available to help and someone you could depend on. That was the way he showed his love. He had a fun sense of humor and loved making people laugh, whether by taking silly photos or wearing the occasional funny hat. He was affectionately known as the family champ at Cornhole. Don was skilled with his hands and could fix just about anything. He had every tool and part imaginable, "just in case it might come in handy someday."
He is survived by his children: Richard (Sue) Jewell of Thurston, Timothy (Maggie) Jewell of NJ, Judy (Edward) Putman of Thurston, and Tammy (Richard) Humphrey of Campbell; foster daughters: Cheryl (Paul) Brunkhorst of CA and Diane (Thomas) Brew of Corning. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was predeceased by his son Frederick Jewell; daughters Sandra K. Jewell and Kathleen (Skip Wenban) Hunt; sisters Patricia Hickey and Sally May Jewell; and brothers Robert G. Jewell and Vincent J. Jewell.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Coopers Plains Cemetery, Meads Creek Road, Coopers Plains, NY, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Scott Greene officiating. Carpenter's Funeral Home in Corning has been entrusted with his final arrangements.
