Donald R. Schofield, 86, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Monday March 10, 2025 in National Church Residences. He was born on November 28, 1938 in Chillicothe, the son Harold D. and Helen R. (Rowland) Schofield. On September 20, 1968 he married D. Sharon Carmean who preceded him death on December 21, 2023.
Surviving are daughters, Jennifer (Bob) Walker, Lewis Center, OH; and Caroline (Harlen) Perry, Chillicothe; and a son Charles P.J. Schofield, Chillicothe; a sister-in-law, Ginger (Bob) Collins, Columbus; and his beloved cat, Millie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Bradley Schofield, and a sister-in-law, Helen Moreland.
Don was a 1956 graduate of CHS, and attended Ohio University, majoring in commerce. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in the Army Reserves from July 1962-October 1973, with his last duty assignment as First Sergeant of the 452 & Direct Support Group. Don had worked in banking and insurance for over 50 years. He served as Clerk of City Council from September 1972-March 2001, served as an Auxiliary City Firefighter from 1968-1989, was on the Nuisance Apartment Board for 10 years, and was the secretary for the Phoenix Fire Company No. 2 for 42 years. Don was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Republican Party.
The family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Kathleen Villarreal and Amity McNeal, RN, for their compassion, care and friendship.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday March 14, 2025 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Aaron Hines, officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to the hour of service on Friday. An online memorial is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
