Donna Benner Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craft Givnish Funeral Home Inc on Mar. 29, 2024.
Donna W. Benner, age 69, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. Donna was born on December 1, 1954 to the late Donald and Virginia (née Newkirk) Weltmer. She was the wife to Kenneth A. Benner by whom she is survived.
Along with her husband, Donna is survived by her daughter Sara B. Walsh and her husband Timothy, her sister Gael Humphreys (William), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her brother John "Skip" Weltmer, niece Debra Murray, and Debra's husband Thomas Murray.
Originally from West Chester, PA, Donna graduated from Henderson High School and then attended Furman University in South Carolina, where she received her degree in education. After teaching in the South for a few years, she relocated to Pennsylvania where she soon met Ken, fell in love, and got married. Sara would be born the following year and the family settled in Wyncote, PA.
Ever the doting mother, Donna could be found volunteering in many of Sara's school activities during her childhood. As the eternal 'PTA mom', Donna selflessly gave of her time and talents for many years in the Cheltenham schools. Perhaps one of Donna's greatest contributions was her dedication to the high school arts program at Cheltenham, acting as costumer and cheerleader for generations of students.
The Benner family have been members of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Wyncote for over 30 years. It is here that Donna served as church secretary, ruling elder, and youth group leader. Donna felt it was her ministry to serve the church in all capacities, whether as wedding planner, alto in the church choir, or the smiling face at the church office door.
Donna definitely felt that Maine was her second home. She spent every summer at the family property (Jemweald) in the Belgrade Lakes region or exploring various coastal points with Ken & Sara. Long-lasting memories were made over many a lobster dinner, hammock swings, loon calls, and blueberry pies.
Donna loved others in a way that made them feel special; always giving people her undivided attention. She often put others before herself, sacrificing her own needs in order to care for those she loved. We were all very fortunate to be loved by Donna and we miss her more than words can say.
Relatives and friends are invited to Donna's Life Celebration on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Visitation will take place from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. followed by her memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 217 Fernbrook Ave. Wyncote, PA 19095. Luncheon to follow. All are welcome.
Interment is private.
