Doris D. Ames, 95, of Jefferson City passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025. She was born April 16, 1930, in Olathe, Kansas, a daughter of Otto S. and Thelma L. Edwards Atkisson. She was married in 1948 to John A. Holdeman and in 1987 to John F. Ames.
Doris graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1940. She was employed as a Lyon County appraiser in Emporia, Kansas, for eleven years. Previous to that she was an assistant manager at the Hallmark card and gift shop. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Capital Region Medical Center Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and had served in many capacities as a volunteer for the Red Cross. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Delta Chapter.
She is survived by one son, David A Holdeman of Chicago, Illinois.; one daughter, Teri E. Formney of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Carol J. Rudroff of Jefferson City, Missouri; three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Marshall, June Ramsey, and Norma Woodson; her brother, Charles O. Atkisson.
A private burial will be held for family.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
