Doris Miller Hipp (Dottie), passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on December 22, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 25, 1933, in the Walnut Grove community in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Doris was the daughter of the late Crawford Augustine Miller and Annabel Arnold Miller. Doris and her beloved husband Bill built a home on the family farm in Walnut Grove, SC where she lived until her death. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.
Doris graduated in 1951 from Roebuck High School where she was Valedictorian of her senior class. She went on to graduate from Winthrop College in 1953. Mrs. Hipp worked as an Administrative Assistant for South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties and retired in 1994 after 38 years.
All that knew Doris knew of her love of sports and especially college football and basketball. Her favorite team was the Clemson Tigers, and she rarely missed seeing a game. She also had a special love of watching her large collection of old movies.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joe Billy Hipp. She is survived by her son, Joel Crawford Hipp and his wife Debra of Roswell, GA; her daughter, Julie Hipp Sill and her husband Greg of Roebuck, SC; grandchildren, Florian Sill, Merry Hunter Caudle (Dan), Palmer Ramsey (Ryan), and Alicia Brooks (Matthew); sister Joan Miller Cogdill (Robert); numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Mary Miller Williams, Crawford Lee Miller, James Martin Miller and their spouses.
Doris was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church in Walnut Grove, SC. Visitation will be 1:15 - 2:45 PM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church, conducted by The Rev. Richard M. Thomas. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.
