Doris Phifer was born on August 10, 1934 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Mildred Green and Jecomb Gillian. She lived in Roselle, New Jersey before moving to Linden, New Jersey in 1966.
Doris was joined in holy matrimony to Owen Phifer. This union was blessed with a daughter, Gail Lorraine Phifer.
Doris was employed as a Motor Line Assembler at General Motors Corporation in Linden for 28 years, before retiring in 2000. Mrs. Phifer was the first woman to ever work in the Motor Line Department, where she installed chassis into the cars on the line.
A faithful member of Holy Mountain Church of God in Christ since 1970, she served on the Mother's Board of the Church.
Doris began selling Avon in 1970. She was also known for selling and wearing hats.
Doris departed this life on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her husband, Owen Phifer in 2010 and her mother, Mildred Wilson.
Doris leaves to cherish fond memories, a devoted daughter, Gail Lorraine Wilson, a granddaughter Ashley Marie Wilson, a godson Lauren Steele, a goddaughter, Nicole "Nicky" Cabbagestalk, her great grandchildren Ariana Nicole Paulino and Joel Owen Paulino, sister in laws Elizabeth Phifer and Lois Betts (Roland) and a host of other relatives and friends.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration. She will be remembered for her enduring impact on the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we gather to celebrate Doris' life, let us cherish the beautiful memories and find solace in the profound legacy she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace, and may the love and memories shared continue to bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
