Plymouth: Doris R. (Labonte) Pion, 93, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in her home after a brief illness.
She is survived by her sons, Raymond E. Pion, Jr. and his wife Ann of Plymouth, James Pion and his wife Kelly of Port Richey, FL, and Jon Pion of St. Petersburg, FL; her brothers, Leo Labonte of Oxford, Arsene "Sam" Labonte of Tampa FL, and Robert Labonte of Dunedin, FL; Doris or "Memere" leaves behind her 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter and was lovingly referred to as "Aunt Dot" by several nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond E. Pion, Sr. in 2005 and her son Donald R. Pion in 2024, as well as her sister Irene, and brothers Benard & Richard.
Doris was born in Thompson, CT, the daughter of Joseph P. and Odila L. (Mailloux) Labonte.
She married Raymond Sr. in 1951 and made Sturbridge their home. Doris worked for a few years before becoming a mother and staying home to raise her four boys. After 30 years in Sturbridge they moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she spent the next 40 years enjoying the warmth and sunshine before reluctantly moving back to the cold of New England in 2020. Doris was an avid baseball fan and loved to loudly cheer on the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. She loved to play Bingo, Yahtzee, Shuffleboard and Dominoes with friends and family. Doris loved a bowl of strawberry ice cream and a glass of white zinfandel. She will be dearly missed.
A calling hour for Doris will be held on Wednesday, February 26th, from 10:00am to 11:00 am in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Anne's Cemetery, Arnold Rd., Sturbridge, MA 01566.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association MA Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
