Doris Shirk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Budd Funeral Home on Jan. 13, 2026.
Doris E. (Smith) Shirk, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, Doris moved to National Park at the age of nine and later graduated from Woodbury High School Class of 1954.
On January 25, 1958, she married the love of her life, Edmund G. Shirk. They began their union in Colonial Manor, NJ and later moved to Ewing, NJ, to start their family.
Doris held several part time jobs while raising and caring for her young family. Later she settled in at Trenton State College where she held several office administrative positions. She finished there as the Secretary to the Dean of Nursing which she held for several years. Doris would finish her working career as a Shop Steward for CWA Local 1031, from which she eventually retired.
Beyond her work and family, Doris found great joy playing bridge with her closest friends. The "7-No Trump Club", as it was affectionately called, gathered a few times a month and did so for almost 6 decades. She had the best stories and formed beautiful lifelong friendships with these ladies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund G. Shirk, and siblings Joseph, Nancy, Lori, and Jeanne Smith. Doris is survived by her children, Stephen Shirk, Kevin Shirk, Tamara (Mark) Kutovy, grandchildren Morgan Paige Coley, Amanda Shirk, Weston Shirk, and siblings George Smith, Ron Smith, Alan (Kim) Smith, and Christine Smith.
Friends may greet the family after 9:30am on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 74 Church Street, West Deptford, NJ 08086. Memorial Service will be at 11am. Interment following in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.

Sorry to hear that Doris passed. We lived next to her in Florida and I often think of her as I have her dining room set, which she always loved. My sympathy to all of her family.
