Dorothy Ostroska Pryately Andrews sang her last note and joined the Celestial Choir on August 20, 2025. She was 96 years old and had a long and full life.

Dorothy was born November 28, 1928 to Margaret (Slavec) and Joseph Ostroska in Bac, Slovenia. In 1929, the family moved to Pittsburgh where her brothers, Joseph and Frank, were born. The family then moved to Cleveland where Dorothy grew up. She attended St. Vitus Elementary School and St. Francis High School, graduating at age 16. She helped run the family business (The Norwood Café) and was active in many Slovenian-American organizations.

In 1950, she received a B.A. in Education from Miami University at the age of 20. Dorothy then taught 2nd grade in Conneaut, OH, before marrying John Pryately in 1952 and moving to Chardon, OH. After John's death in 1966, she rolled up her sleeves and re-entered the workforce to provide for her 4 children. She worked as a teacher at St. Mary's School and then at the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. She received an MA in Education from Wright State University in 1981.

In 1982, Dorothy married Jim Andrews and moved with him to Apex, NC. There Dorothy worked as an editor for journals published by Duke University. She traveled the world with Jim, and enjoyed family get-togethers as much as possible. Both were active members of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and The Peak City Singers.

After Jim's death in 2010, Dorothy moved into Cambridge Village Senior Housing in Apex and later to Seagrass Village in Fleming Island, FL. At the time of her death, she was living in Silver Treasures near Fleming Island.

Dorothy was a talented homemaker and singer. She especially loved working with children as a playground director, primary school teacher, brownie leader, and social worker. Dorothy was a gifted organizer who founded a singing group to visit residents in Memory Care and helped a card-coloring group to send good wishes to veterans. She loved playing bingo, bridge and Rummikub. She will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful soul with boundless love for family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Margaret Pryately, John (and Nancy) Pryately, Christine Pryately, and Virginia (and Jim) Collins as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends and family who will miss her dearly.

A celebration of life is being organized to be held in Ohio later this year. In lieu of flowers, please think of your fondest memory of Dorothy and keep it close to your heart
