Dorothy Joan Carver, 89, of South Whitley, passed away peacefully in the company of family at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2025, at her home.
Born on February 22, 1936, in Thorncreek Twp., Whitley County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Esta and Ruby (Hull) Keel. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1954.
Dorothy went to work for Chamberlin Products, South Whitley, and later the Heckman Bindery in North Manchester. She met and later married Donald LeRoy Carver on October 28, 1962. Making their home in South Whitley, they raised two children, and Dorothy became a full-time homemaker. After raising the kids, she became a caregiver for family and friends.
Keeping busy around the home, she grew a large vegetable garden and canned the produce for use throughout the year. She also liked to grow flowers. In her quiet time, she did pencil drawings and, in more recent years, computer games. A leisurely ride through the countryside with her husband helped her to relax and unwind. She attended the First Baptist Church of South Whitley.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald; children, Debra L. Carver and James Carver both of South Whitley; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Keel both of South Whitley; and a sister, Phyllis Simmons of South Whitley.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by sisters Helen Kurz, Mary Lou Jackson, and an infant sister, Lois Jean Keel.
The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday (March 29th) at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is from noon until the service at the funeral home.
Memorials in Dorothy's honor are to final expenses c/o Smith & Sons Funeral Home.
