Dorothy Marie Roccia, 84, of Maple Shade, NJ, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the Arbor Terrace Assisted Living, Eatontown, NJ.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1938 to the late, Steven and Maryanna (Nawalinski) Podgorny. She grew up in South Philly, until she moved to Maple Shade, NJ in 1958 with her husband, Domenic. They were parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Maple Shade.
In her younger days, she enjoyed many trips with her family to multiple Caribbean Islands, and later cruises with her grandchildren. She loved the seashore, sitting on the dock at Bahrs Landing Marina enjoying raw oysters and simply hanging out in the family pool. Frank Sinatra was her favorite, many family members thought he was a part of the family with the way she spoke of him and his music. His music would play, most Sunday mornings, as she banged her pots and pans creating Sunday Dinner. She fancied herself as a gourmet cook and her children were her favorite guests. She would love to attend a good parade, be it New Years Eve with the Mummers or cheering on the Philadelphia Flyers on their Stanley Cup win. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Domenic Roccia in 1993, her daughter, Donna Hummel and her sister, Maryanne Podgorny.
She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her children, Robert Roccia (William Callahan), Debby Roccia and Paul Roccia, her special nephew, Mark Podgorny, her grandchildren, Walter Hummel (Katie), Stephanie Hummel, Lauren Brown, Kayla Roccia, Stephen Roccia, Christina Fox (Brian) and Michael Rulbewsky.
Friends and relatives may attend her visitation on Tuesday, September, 12, 2023 from 9:00am - 11:00am at Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home, 2426 Cove Road, Pennsauken, NJ 08109. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am, followed by a procession past the family house and interment at Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
