Funeral services celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Dorothy Gayle Hubbard Whitaker, 85, of West Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana with Rev. Chris Burke officiating. Interment will follow immediately after in the Clark Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
Dorothy was born on August 16, 1940, in West Monroe, Louisiana and entered heaven’s gates on Friday, October 31, 2025, in Monroe, Louisiana.
She was an extraordinary, giving woman that we called wife, mom, sister, and friend. Dorothy was a wonderful baker, incredible cook, gifted seamstress, and fabulous entertainer. Her home was always open to all and everyone was always fed, even the four-legged strays.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Ivy Hubbard; sons, Terry and Andrew Whitaker; daughter, Joy Thompson; brothers, Thomas, Gene, Marshall and Jerry Hubbard; and granddaughter, Tabitha Whitaker.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her husband of sixty-seven years, John Albert Whitaker, Jr.; sons, John Albert Whitaker, III. and wife, Penny, and Dwight Kalvin Whitaker, Sr. and wife, Janet; daughters, Penny Gayle Hancock and husband, Mark, and Dana Marie Palmer; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Cobb, Pat Hubbard, and Sharon Little; brother, Dale Hubbard and wife, Blanche.
The pallbearers will be Dwight Whitaker Jr., Kerry Whitaker, Dwight Whitaker, III., Justin Whitaker, Joseph Rubio, and Jacob Hancock.
The honorary Pallbearers will be Elizabeth Lambright, Amber Kuykendall, Tracy Whitaker, Christina Martinez, and Samantha Hancock.
