My dear Mother Doris passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, due to complications with Pneumonia. Doris Ruby Read was born on September 17, 1934 in Hooper Utah. She was the first child of Alva Park Read, and Ruby Valette Read. Doris's early childhood years were spent in Hooper and, South Weber on her Uncle Saunders farm. The family later on settle in Ogden Utah, and eventually buying a house on Patterson Ave. At an early age my Mother had a fondness for education. Attending Pingree Elementary School through Ogden High School. During her high school years she began dating my father Arthur Patrick Smith. On June 18th of 1954 Arthur and Doris were married in the Logan Temple. They were married 63 years until the passing of Arthur in 2017. Both of my parents persuaded higher education earning college degrees. Doris continued on to earn a Master's Degree in Business Organization. Doris took a profession as a teacher for the Ogden School District. Teaching at a variety of school from North Ogden Elementary to Mount Ogden Middle School now Mount Ogden Junior High. One high lights of her career was being accepted for a teacher exchange program to Australia for one year. Doris taught school for 39 years retiring in 1996. Doris had a passion for painting and drawing. She was very good at water color painting, and loved painting the Teton mountain range in the Wyoming National Park. Among Doris other passions was gardening. She completed a Master Gardeners Program through the Utah State University extension services. Roses and Japanese Maples were among her favorites. In all I was so blessed to have Doris as a Mother. She went above and beyond. Together both my parents were exceptional and good role models. For that I will always remember, love, and so hold them close and dear to my heart. Doris is survived by her son Sean Patrick Smith. 2 sisters Wilma Weese, and LaRene Cook and 2 brothers Delvin Read, and Ronald Read.Doris was preceded in by her parents, and husband Arthur. Funeral Service will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the North Ogden 7th ward church building. Location 205 E. Elberta Dr. North Ogden, Utah. Viewings will be held same location Monday, July 29 2024 from 6 to 8 pm. Tuesday prior to the services, 10:00 to 10:45 am. Interment will follow to the Ben Lomond Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at Quail Meadows, and the North Ogden 7th ward.
