Douglas W. Burkert
1960-2025
Douglas W. Burkert, 64, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025.
He was born August 30, 1960 in Berkeley, California to Donald and Frances (Fox) Burkert.
Douglas married Amy Diane Johnson on August 12, 1988. She survives of the home.
He was a plumber/pipefitter for St. Joseph PHC for most of his 44 years in the trade. He got the opportunity to be part owner of the company in later years and was very proud of the fact he was able to work hard and build St. Joseph PHC into a bigger and more successful company than it was before.
After parting ways with St. Joe PHC, he worked for several other companies in the area until he retired in 2022.
Doug was able to pass on much of his knowledge of plumbing to many people presently working in the trade and he knew countless members of the community. He served on the St. Joseph Plumbing Board and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 45.
Doug had a strong faith in God and always said he knew where he was going after death. We know he's in heaven with all his family and friends who went before him.
Doug was passionate about gardening, working for hours to make it look just right. He enjoyed sharing the bounty of his garden with many in the area. Always active outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, looking for mushrooms and building anything he could think of. He always needed to be working on a project and was talented enough to build 2 new homes during his lifetime, with a little help from family and friends. Doug collected birdhouses and model trains over the years, always planning to build a big train layout. Fourth of July was his favorite holiday and he always looked forward to putting on a fireworks display for everyone to watch each year.
Doug loved his family and was so proud of his 4 children. He was a caring and wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren and was so excited to meet the 2 new grandbabies born this year. His nieces and nephews had a very special place in his heart and he enjoyed spending time with them when he could.
We'll miss you so much but know you're in a better place. "Bug Done"
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Frances Burkert; father-in-law, Doyle Johnson; daughter, Danielle Burkert; grandson, Waylon Harvey; nephews, James Shea, Donald Shea, Ryan Shea, and Dalton Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Amy; children, Desiree (Travis) Harvey, Scott Burkert, and Mackenzie (Caleb) Albers; grandchildren, Raven (Jalon Bye) Burkert, Wyatt Harvey, and Alara Albers; great-grandchild, Ivy Bye; siblings, Don (Mary) Burkert, Debra Shea, Denise (Douglas) Grimm; mother-in-law, Ivalee Johnson; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Steve (Linda) Johnson, Aaron (Renee)
Johnson, and Neil (Lindy Anne) Johnson; nieces and nephews, Aimee (Brian), Andrea (Josh), Paul, Matthew (Meka), Tyler (Kelly), Vanessa (Josh), Taylor, Cassandra, Cameron, Noah, Trysten (Trent), Emma, and Anna; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
