Obituary of Douglas Michael Schaefer
Douglas Michael Schaefer, 92, of Hyde Park, NY passed away on August 11, 2022, at Vassar Medical Center. He was born on June 30, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Frank Paul and the late Ida Laura (Robins) Schaefer.
Doug was a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie and he attend Poughkeepsie High School.
He was a retired Supervisor for Culligan Water Poughkeepsie. Doug was also a bartender at the Poughkeepsie ELK's Lodge BPOE 275 and was a funeral attendant for many years for the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home and the Miller Funeral Home both in Poughkeepsie.
Doug was a member of the Poughkeepsie Elk's #275. Doug always loved working around his house and being outdoors.
He served during Korean war in the Marine Corps from July 19, 1950 to November 24, 1953, Doug was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
He was the husband of Delores M. Modica, they were married on December 19, 1954 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Survivors include spouse Delores Schaefer Hyde Park New York, sister-in-law Geraldine Murent Florida, sister in-law and brother in-law Joanna and Robert Rhinehart Florida and several nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by his three brothers and his sister Ernest, Earl, Melvin Schaefer and Georgette Blass
Friends may call on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held August 17, 2022, at 11:30 AM from Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY.
Interment will take place with Military Honors at the Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
