HUDSON – Douglas Earl Spangler, Jr., age 75, of Hudson, MI, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Hampton Manor in Adrian, MI. Doug was born on December 27, 1946, in Cleveland, OH, to Douglas E. and Grace E. (Horning) Spangler, Sr. Doug married Carol D. Woolket on August 31, 1968, in Avon Lake, OH, and she survives.
Doug proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1974. He was a Consultant Engineer for several nuclear power plants for 37 years, until his retirement in 2011. Doug attended both Sacred Heart and St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Churches. He was a history buff with a love of Greek, Roman, and European history. Doug was an avid coin collector and a member of the American Numismatic Society, and he also enjoyed fishing. His family remembers him as a devoted husband, a loving father/grandfather, and a spiritual leader of his family.
In addition to his devoted wife, Carol, he is survived by his son, Douglas (Erin "Wren") Spangler of Manitou Beach, MI; his daughter, Leah (Scott) Staup of Foreston, MN; six grandchildren: Emily Spangler, Carolyn Spangler, Nathan Spangler, Collin Staup, Lauren Staup and Aiden Staup; and his sister, Diane (Lloyd) Fugate of Westerville, OH. Doug is preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral Mass for Doug will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at St. Mary on the Lake in Manitou Beach, MI, with Fr. Todd Koenigsknecht as celebrant. Visitation will be at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Hudson, MI, with a luncheon immediately following at Sacred Heart Church in Hudson.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary on the Lake. Envelopes are available at the church. You may send condolences to the family at www.eaglemarryfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Hudson.
