Doyle Carlton Andrews, 92, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was born February 5, 1929, to his parents Charles Robert and Isma Cherry Andrews in the Pleasant Grove community of Pensacola, FL.
Doyle was one of eleven children and was raised in the Pleasant Grove community and lived his life within a few hundred feet of the home in which he was born. Doyle was a hard worker all his life, beginning work in his younger years working for his grandparents in their gardening and gladiolus business and assisting his grandfather selling gladioli in the neighborhoods of Pensacola. He was a 1947 graduate of Pensacola High School.
Doyle could achieve most anything he set his mind to. In his younger years he had a business to service television and radios, he was a bottler at the Royal Crown Cola plant and helped his brother run a dry cleaning plant. At some point he took up carpentry, working first for a local contractor and then beginning his own Home Building business.
He was a strong advocate of the implementation of Building Codes and the Permitting of new structures. He was the contractor who pulled the very first building permit in Santa Rosa County. Doyle held and maintained an active Contractors License for well over 60 years. He built many houses across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. They have withstood the storms and hurricanes of this area and stand today as a testament to his craftsmanship and attention to the details of doing the job right the first time.
Doyle lived his life the way he saw fit, he instilled his values in his children, teaching the boys the trade of carpentry and the associated trades that go with it. He taught all of them good work ethics; that quality counts in all that you do; and that a person is only as good as their word. It was a fact that no matter where we went with him in Pensacola there was always someone who knew him. Doyle was a social person who loved to talk and tell his stories and never met a stranger. He was also an avid Mullet fisherman and an expert with a cast net. Doyle loved to eat and knew all the places in town to get a good meal.
Doyle grew up in the Baptist faith, accepting Christ at an early age and living life with his faith as a central part of that life. He was ordained a Deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist church whose current auditorium he helped to build. He attended and was known in many churches across Pensacola where during his life he served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Leader, and most enjoyed his time singing in various choirs.
Doyle was preceded in death by both his parents, eight brothers, Willard, Ralph, Lawrence, Marion, Jewel, Kenneth, Gordon, and Gerald, and one sister Isma (ILA) LaCoste.
He is survived by one sister Ellen Andrews Halfhill, his children, Julie (Mike) Gillstrap, Alan (Anne Watson) Andrews, and Steve (Bev) Andrews; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Covenant Care for all their loving care during the last weeks of his life.
