Doyle Busby Obituary Doyle Talmage Busby was born on March 4, 1931, in Wilson, Texas to Norman and Josephine (Machen) Busby. He spent his childhood in Texas alongside his seven siblings where he learned the importance of hard work, resiliency, and grit.
In 1950, TJ Poindexter brought Doyle, aka "Slick," to South Dakota where TJ made it possible for him to achieve his greatest dreama college degree. It was during this time that he attended and graduated from South Dakota State University in 1953 before proudly serving his country with the US Army in Korea and Japan from 1953-1955.
Doyle met the love of his life, Moveda Penn, in Olivet, SD while she was working at the Hutchinson County courthouse. If you asked him, it was love at first sight. After a short courtship, they married on May 24, 1958, in Scotland, SD. To this union, Marcea and Melissa were born.
A devoted father and husband, there was not a distance too far nor a task too tall when it came to his three favorite "bunnies." Doyle worked hard his entire life to provide for his family, but he also prioritized making cherished memories water skiing at the lake cabin, in the kitchen baking cookies, and so much more. He spent time teaching both of his girls financial responsibility and how to budget, although in college, they considered it more of a suggestion than a rule. As Marcea and Melissa both went on to earn degrees, pursue their careers, and raise their own families, Doyle was immeasurably proud of his daughters.
Doyle met many of his lifelong friends through his long and rewarding career with the US Department of Agriculture and the FmHA. He was active in the Sturgis United Methodist Church for over 40 years, as well as a member of Eastern Star, NARFE, the Masonic Lodge, and the Naja Shriners. His occupation took his family to many places throughout the years including Pierre, Aberdeen, Clear Lake, Brookings, and Sturgis, SD (three different times!) as well as Hereford, TX before he and Moveda made their final move to Rosemount, MN in 2019. Many late nights were spent playing cards and entertaining friends in all of their homes. After Doyles retirement, they looked forward to escaping the SD winters by traveling south with their camper.
Affectionately known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, this was one of his favorite roles. From a young age, his grandkids had Papa wrapped around their fingers. He did everything from climbing Bear Butte, camping, riding bikes, tubing, playing Jokers, and everything in between. He loved his family deeply. All of them knew, however, that when he shook his coffee cup or asked for another "sliver" of dessert, there was no time to spare.
Doyle lived a full life which led him to many places, people, and experiences that enriched it along the way. He was known for his quirky catchphrases, generous spirit, unwavering compassion, and playful spunk. Firm in his faith, Doyle passed peacefully on March 29, 2025, knowing the promise of Heaven awaited him.
Eternally grateful to have shared his life with him are his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Moveda, of Rosemount, MN; daughters Marcea (Tom) King of Lakeville, MN and Melissa (Brian) Shanks of Elk Point, SD; grandchildren David (Alexandria) Von Eschen, Elizabeth (Aaron) Holland, Molly (Grayson) Pirner, Christina (Matt) Braun, Zach Von Eschen (Kyle Buss), Scott (Maddie) Shanks, and Adam (Madison) Shanks; great-grandchildren Cecilia, Eloise, Weston, Lila, Liliana,Theodore, Spencer, Josephine, Beckett, and Ella, and many nieces and nephews.
