Dr. Peter Giannopoulos Obituary

Dr. Peter H. Giannopoulos, 94, beloved husband of the late Jacqueline M. (Drescher) Giannopoulos, of Phoenixville, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He was born on September 4, 1931to the late Harry and Renee (Kereacakos) Giannopoulos.

Dr. Giannopoulos served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and later at the Valley Forge General Hospital during the Vietnam War. Throughout his youth, he displayed exceptional athleticism as he participated in baseball, football, and track and field in high school.

A dedicated medical professional, Dr. Giannopoulos established a private practice in Phoenixville, where he served the community from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. His commitment to public service extended to his role as a Deputy Coroner for 24 years and Chester County Coroner from 1990 to 1998, during which he also served as the President of the Pennsylvania State Coroner Association. Additionally, he held the esteemed position of Chief of Staff at Phoenixville Hospital.

Dr. Giannopoulos was a member of St. Basil the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he embraced his faith and community. He was also known for his passion for golf, enjoying many days on the course.

He leaves behind a loving family, including five children: Harry A. (Deborah), Peter R. (Mary A.), John J. (Anne), Wendy Lee, and Glenn P. (Kathleen). He cherished his eight grandchildren: Alexandra, Nicholas, Peter, Zachary, Jennifer, Megan, Rachel, and Robert, and delighted in the company of his four great-grandchildren: Aspyn, Lucas, Mia, and Jacob.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Dr. Giannopoulos's life at his Funeral Mass at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, located at 2340 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville, PA, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 am, prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at woundedwarriorproject.org, honoring Dr. Giannopoulos’s commitment to service.
