Dr. Stanley Dean Schaeffer, 64, of Kernersville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.

After graduating high school Stan went on to earn his Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University. He graduated from Medical School at West Virginia University in 1990. Stan spent his residency working in family medicine in Charleston, WV. After finishing residency, Stan and his wife, Kem, moved to North Carolina in 1993. He was the sole doctor at Walkertown Family Medicine where he retired after 28 years.

Stan enjoyed being outdoors and experiencing nature. He spent his free time doing anything water related and especially liked kayaking. In his early years, Stan was an Eagle Scout which helped fuel his lifelong hobbies.

He is preceded in death by his father, Stuart Dean Schaeffer; and brothers, Tim Schaeffer, and Scotty Schaeffer.

Stan is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kathleen “Kem” Schaeffer; beloved son, Christopher Schaeffer (Taylor); mother, Sharon Schaeffer; and uncles, Sid Vanmatre (Henrietta), and Chris Vanmatre (Kay).
