Earl Patrick Weaver, 83, of New Freedom, PA passed away Saturday 8/16/2025. An only child, Earl was born in December 1941 to Betty Jane and Earl Emmanuel Weaver, both predeceased.
He is survived by by his wife Susan J. Weaver of Pikesville, MD, sons, Michael P. Weaver (married to Dawn Weaver) of Shrewsbury, PA, Daniel A. Weaver (married to Brandy Weaver) of Stewartstown, PA, Susan's daughter Laurie Rubin of Pikesville, MD, and two grandsons Michael Weaver Jr. and Andrew Weaver.
While born in Harrisburg, PA, Earl moved as a child to Havre de Grace, MD where he would later participate in numerous extracurricular activities and graduate from Havre de Grace HS Class of '59 with the goal of attending college.
He began his career at Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) as a part of the Ballistics Research Laboratory (BRL) and attended Johns Hopkins University for two years. He would go on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Mathematics/Physics from University of Delaware.
Earl would later take a sabbatical, move his family to Michigan, and earn a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.), Computer, Information and Control Engineering from University of Michigan - Rackham Graduate School.
The family then moved back to Havre de Grace and he continued his career at APG as a Mathematician for the Vulnerability Lethality Division of the BRL (later reorganized as the Army Research Lab).
In his role, he was part of a pioneering team in the development of 3D computational models that allowed the calculation of expected aircraft battle damage without physical range work. Earl would be awarded several professional distinguished conduct certificates in conjunction with the team's work.
Earl married his first wife, Virginia E. Ambrose in 1962. The couple would live and raise their sons in Havre de Grace and remain married until separating in 1997.
He would later marry Susan J. Rubin of Pikesville, MD in 2005 and they would move to New Freedom, PA.
Earl was a true modern renaissance man. He held a Private Pilot's License, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, drawing/painting, computers, camping, boating, fishing, gunsmithing, silversmithing, archery, traveling, attending local theatrical events, and cooking.
He was also a longtime member of Hopewell Fish and Game Association in Stewartstown and enjoyed many of its various club activities.
After retiring from the Army Research Lab, Earl become Adjunct Faculty at both York College (York, PA) and Towson University (Towson, MD). He would teach undergraduate classes in mathematics, critical thinking, and Microsoft Excel. He also enjoyed working as Shop Supervisor in the Engineering Lab at York College of Engineering where he mentored engineering students from freshmen, with no practical knowledge, through experienced seniors completing their senior projects.
The list of Earl's interests and project dreams could easily continue; however, his family, friends, and colleagues know he was always coming up with new ideas, plans and projects to do "one of these days".
Public Celebration of Life services will be announced at a later date when they are finalized.
