Rev. Eddie Lee White Sr. was born March 5, 1945, in Cocoa, Brevard County, Florida, to Alma Stanford and later adopted by Ophelia and Willie White of
Cocoa, FL. He was a 1963 graduate of Monroe High School in Cocoa. Rev. White departed this life early Sunday morning, December 7, 2025.
Early Years- At age 11, Rev. White joined and was baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Cocoa. He was active in Sunday School, Usher Board, BTU, and various other ministries. At 19, he accepted the call to the Gospel Ministry and was licensed and ordained under the pastorate of Dr. Hugh F. Brockington Sr., of Metropolitan Church. Rev. White served as assistant pas tor to Dr. Brockington for 1½ years. In the early 60s, he met his wife, Lynett Louise Cue of
Jacksonville, FL and they were married on January 29, 1966. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January 2026. Two children were born to that union: Eddie Lee White Jr. and Mae Bernadette White.
Pastorate at Ebenezer Baptist Church
Louisville, KY- Rev. White traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to study at then Simmons Bible College, now Simmons College of Kentucky. He joined Eastern Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. J.R. Gant, where he served as Junior Church Pastor. Later Rev. White was asked to assist Pastor M.H. Gant Sr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. While at Ebenezer the church extended an invitation for Rev. White to serve as assistant pastor under Dr. Gant. In 1973, at the retirement of Dr. Gant, Ebenezer extended the call to Rev. White to accept the pastorate full-time, his first and only pastorate. For 45 years Rev. White faithfully discharged his duties as a pastor. He retired from Ebenezer December 31, 2018, moved to
Jacksonville, Florida and united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. There he assisted Pastor Charles McLeod and served until the death of Rev. McLeod. Rev. White then joined Great Harvest Missionary Baptist Church where he served as assistant to Pastor George B.T. Lowe.
Educational Summary and Training- Rev. White earned a B.Th., Simmons Bible College, Louisville; M.Div., Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary; A.A. Jefferson Community College, Louisville; B.A. with emphasis in Religion & Psychology, University of Louisville; Honorary D.D. Simmons College of Kentucky; took courses in Basic Leadership; Student Chaplain; Continuing Education Unit, Shaw University Divinity School through J.V. Bottoms Institute: Course: "Preaching at its Best".
Civic Recognitions- Rev. White has been recognized for the following: Chairman, Martin Luther King Jr. Food Store; Certificate of Appreciation from The
American Red Cross for assisting in the Blizzard of 1978 in Lou. KY; "Man of the Year" Award from the Kentucky Southern Christian Leadership Conference; Minister of the Week by the Louisville Defender newspaper; Volunteer Chaplain under Hospice of Louisville; Awarded the "25 Years and Counting" Plaque by the Central District Baptist Association,
Louisville, KY for serving 25 years or more as a senior pastor; Distinguished Citizen Award from Louisville Metro Council; Plaque from Louisville Metro Council for 36 years of dedicated service to Ebenezer Baptist Church and a street was named in his honor as the "Honorary Rev. Dr. E. L. White, Sr. Avenue".
Survivors - Rev. White is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Lynett Louise Cue White; son, Eddie Lee White, Jr. (Reneé) of Killeen, TX and daughter, Mae B. White of Jacksonville; sisters, Alma Washington Chatman of
Cocoa, FL and Betty Jordan Hadley of Naples, FL; brothers, Bobby Jordan of Winter Springs, FL and Issac Jerome Reed (Betty) of Orlando, FL. Three brothers: Francis Washington, Larry Reed, and Ronald Reed preceded him in death; grandchildren, Mwanza S. Espinosa, Lynette Alaina White, Christian Isaiah White, Rosann Sugars, Reneé Emma Sugars, Joshua Malachi Sugars, DaMariez M. Sugars, and Ariel Pendleton; foster daughter, Gail Hayden Marshall; foster grandchildren, Avalon Johnson, Arroya Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Raymont Offutt, Clifton Offutt, La'Niya Carradine, and LaVelle Carradine; sisters-in-law, Elaine Cue Villegas and Brenda Cue Forehand (Paul I); brothers-in-law, Gerald Otis Cue (Joyce), Phillip Alonzo Cue (Gloria); nieces, Kimberly Chatman, Mechelle Hadley, Min. Sophia Bowman, Kelly Jordan, Raconda Rolands, Tamika Reed, Tiffany Reed, Rosalyn Cue Jackson, Rosette Cue Poole, Bridgette Hatton, Petita Cue Rentz, and Portia Cue; nephews: Michael Chatman, Min. Jacksonville, Florida 32208, Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, and the Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery. South.
