Edith "Lavern" Britt, 98, passed away in her home, Tuesday, July 16, 2024. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 15, 1925, to her late parents, Gertrude and Phillip Gagel.
Lavern, along with her husband Bud was a founding member of Chapel Hill United Church of Christ, where she devoted her life to serving God and her community. She attended Chapel Hill for 68 years and served as a leader of the Women's Guild, Bereavement, and many other committees. She has been an active alumna of Valley High School and she lived and breathed for The University of Louisville. Lavern, known as Grams to her family, was a true caretaker by nature. She would attend as many of the grandkid's events as possible and was genuinely proud of the legacy she left behind.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Frank (Bud) Britt; son, Roger Britt; and 8 siblings.
Lavern is survived by her children, Mark Britt (Denise), Rhea Higdon (James), David Britt (Tina), and Stephen Britt (Dana); 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren with 2 on the way; 5 great-great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Ann Britt Allen
Her memorial visitation will be held at Chapel Hill United Church of Christ, 2307 Embassy Ln. Louisville, Ky, 40216, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 10:00-2:00 PM. A memorial service will follow the visitation, starting at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Shively Area Ministries or Chapel Hill United Church of Christ.
