Edith Johns Burney, 97, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Born in Palatka, Mrs. Burney was a long-time resident of Fort Pierce. She retired from Bernard Egan & Co., where she worked with dedication and pride. A devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ft. Pierce, Edith's life was centered around her faith, her church, and serving others. She loved the Lord and cherished her church family deeply. She found great joy in gardening and giving her time to the church she so loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Pennie Lee of Fort Pierce; sister, Nadine Head of Palatka; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Burney; brothers, P.L. Johns, Alfred Johns, and Willard Johns; sisters, Essie Mae Burney, Christine Hodges, Rosetta Johns, Loren Johns, and Harriett Johns; and son-in-law, Steve Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2750 McNeil Rd, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
Funeral services are being held in Ft. Pierce and Palatka. Local services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Alfred Johns, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m.-an hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will follow at Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin.
