Edith Codding, age 100 of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 6, 2023, at The Moments in Lakeville, Minnesota.
Edith Carol (Pederson) Codding was born November 6, 1923, in rural Churchs Ferry, North Dakota, to Paul and Marie (Anderson) Pederson. She was raised on the family farm, attended a one room country school, graduated from Churchs Ferry High School in 1942 and attended Aakers Business School in Grand Forks. Following her education she worked as a bookkeeper for 1st National Bank in Devils Lake and later for MDU in Fargo.
On June 21, 1953, Edith married Richard E. Codding at Chain Lake Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry. In 1954, they moved to Valley City and a few years thereafter they moved to Jamestown. Richard passed away on November 21, 2001. Edith remained in Jamestown until moving to the Twin Cities area in 2020.
Edith was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown where she was active in Martha Circle and she is a former board member of the Anne Carlson Center. She was an avid bowler - winning several awards. She enjoyed taking neighborhood walks and watching the Minnesota Twins and local sports teams.
Survivors include her sister Rita Larson of Minot, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her sisters Anna Emerson, Ethel Thorp, Ruth Pederson and Agnes Hoistad; and her brothers Loyd, Melvin, Maurice and Erling Pederson.
Interment will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
