Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel on Jun. 9, 2024.
Edith Mae "Edie" Kelly, age 87, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Kingston Residence of Marion following an extended illness.
On May 21, 1937, Edit was born in
Marion, Ohio, the youngest of three children of the late Robert Donald and Mabel Gertrude (Bird) McWherter. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1955.
In the summer of 1957, she married Roger Ray Ward. They shared 13 years together and had three sons: Randall, Douglas and Daniel.
For over 30 years, Edie worked as the office manager at the Marion Speech and Hearing Clinic.
In November of 1975, Edie married David L. Kelly in
Knightstown, Indiana. They shared a love for boating up on the waters of Lake Erie. They loved everything about spending time up at the lake with family and friends. They shared twenty six years of marriage, and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2001.
Very importantly to her, Edie was a 50 plus year member of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene. Church was both a way of life, and a source of strength and support for her.
Always keeping busy, two of Edie's favorite pastimes were reading and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Most important of all to Edie was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her true pride and joy. She always cherished every minute spent with her family.
Having a heart of gold, Edie will be remembered for her great kindness, steadiness, and immense faithfulness. She also was a friend and confidant to many. Her weeks were spent meeting friends and helping care for others.
She will be missed by her two sons: Doug (Michelle) Ward of
Palatine, IL, and Dan (Stephanie) Ward of
Marion, OH; four grandchildren: Adam (Dottie) Ward, Sarah (Bryant) Smith, Emily (Jordan) Crum, and Allison (Caleb) Wood; 8 great-grandchildren: Mabel, Finley and Wesley Ward, Tatiana, Clement and Kassiani Smith, and Nolan and Isla Crum; two siblings: Edna (McWherter) Jakobitz,
Buffalo Lake, MN, and Earl McWherter, Delaware, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Edie was preceded in death by her son, Randall Ward; and her husband, David Kelly.
Her family will greet friends from 10 – 11:15 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Doug Ward officiating. For those unable to attend her service, it will be live-streamed on the Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DenzerChapelSFH) starting 10 minutes before the service begins. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marion First Church of the Nazarene, c/o Missions Fund (NWMS), 233 W Church St,
