Edward Keith Alsip, age 62, of Marion, IL, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 3:27 p.m. in Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Keith was born on February 14, 1961 in Jackson, TN, a son of Edward L. "Shorty" and Charlene (Duke) Alsip.
He married the love of his life, Rebecca Lee Grissom, on January 23, 1982 at Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church, Creal Springs, IL and together they have shared over 41 years of marriage.
Keith was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1979. He furthered his education at SIU-Carbondale and earned a Bachelor's Degree in education.
He was a hard-working man and remained active in the workforce until his health no longer allowed him to do so. Keith never allowed his battles with health situations to keep him from living life to the fullest, however. During his lifetime he was an avid deer hunter and bass fisherman. He was a true outdoorsman and loved gardening, mowing, and riding four-wheelers. He truly cherished the time he spent with his wife and children traveling, going antique "picking," visiting national parks, and simply just being together as a family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and rarely missed watching a NASCAR race. He also loved watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Above all, Keith loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of The Word Church in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Alsip of Marion; son, Matthew Alsip of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Abby and Grant Mitchell of Johnston City; two grandchildren who he lovingly adored; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and John Lazorchak of Johnston City; brother, Ricky Alsip and his significant other, Theresa Avants of West Frankfort; brother-in-law and best friend, Jim Grissom of Marion; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Hannah Lazorchak.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
The visitation will be held at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
Following the visitation on Wednesday morning, the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend David Gilley and Reverend Bobby Ferguson presiding.
Interment will follow in McKinney Chapel Cemetery at the Lake of Egypt.
