Ed passed into eternal life on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Edward Daniel Bain was born on March 28, 1947 to parents Lottie and Harry Thomas "H.T." Bain, Jr.
Ed attended school in Pioneer, Louisiana, 1st through 12th grade, achieving perfect attendance every year but one – when he missed only a single day. He was voted "Most Athletic" his senior year for playing baseball and basketball. Raised on a farm with a strong work ethic, he left to briefly work in pipelines and construction. Missing the home he loved, he returned to West Carroll Parish while helping his father and earning enough to purchase a new car. He attended college at Louisiana Tech University and Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana Monroe). Ed began his teaching and coaching career at Wossman when he met and married a young woman from Wisner, Julia Belle Boothe.
About one year later, Ed and Julia moved back to West Carroll, which would be their home for 50 more years, coaching, teaching and serving together in West Carroll and Morehouse Parishes.
God blessed Ed and Julia with their greatest gift – two sons: Justin Daniel Bain in 1979, and Jonathan David Bain in 1990.
After Wossman, Ed's career led him to Goodwill Elementary and Forest High School – twice – where he was head coach of numerous sports and later principal. Next, he became Headmaster of Prairie View Academy. While at Forest, he was awarded the district's Boys' Basketball Coach of the Year – twice. He built Forest's baseball and softball fields, and led both teams to state tournaments. He led Forest to a girls' basketball State Championship in 1980; and in 2009, Prairie View to a softball state
championship. Ed was very supportive of community & charity events as well as winning a National Amateur Softball Championship with his brother in 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia.
After retiring – twice – from 42 years in education, Ed enjoyed traveling, fishing, and building a sunroom, together with Julia, at their camp on the Ouachita River where they hosted family events. He also became a sports commentator on the local radio station, MIX 96.7 – a job he adored. He found great fulfillment in solving problems and helping others.
Ed served as an ordained deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and Twin Oaks Baptist Church for a combined 40 years.
Throughout his life he remained an energetic, devoted, and loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. So many people in his community were touched by his kindness, joy, and sincere love of life. As his health began to decline in the last months of his life, he strove to live life to its fullest, spending time with family and friends, attending ball games, serving the Lord, camping, and fishing.
On September 12, 2024, shortly after calls from both sons assuring their daddy of their LOVE for him, while his nieces stood in love and support, Julia wiped three tears from his eyes, as his spirit was released to Sail Away Home and his HOPE became reality.
"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil" – Hebrews 6:19
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, H.T. and Lottie Bain; his sisters Coletha Frost, Kathy Easterling, and Yvonne Neal.
He is survived by his wife, Julia; their sons, Justin and Jonathan; his sister Mary Bain; his brother Harry T. Bain, III; and a large extended family.
