Edward Victor Cain Jr. 1942-2024
Edward Victor Cain, Jr. left this world late in the evening of August 16, 2024. At his side was his loving wife, Jeanne, daughter Laurie and his sister, Toby. Throughout that day Ed was surrounded by his family and close family friend, Stan Fidler.
Ed was born to Edward and Dorothy Cain, Sr. on March 7, 1942. He was a graduate of Fort Bragg High School and received his BFA degree from the California College of the Arts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, honorably discharged on June 30, 1972. He enjoyed his work managing vocational services workshops, first for Parents and Friends in the early 1970s, and then for San Mateo County. He also spent many years as part of the Mendo Litho team.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Candy Dreyer. He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 51 years. Also surviving him are his sister, Toby Cain, his six bonus children (who called him Sid), Laurie, Bruce, Gary (Lisa), Sandra (Dave), Vincent and Jay, his eight grandchildren, Reuby, Jetty (Jacob), Jillian (John), Ross (Sage), Jherica, Joe (Morgan), Kara (Travis) and Katie and his 11 great grandchildren Brook, Sunny, Abraham, Isaiah, Waylon, Draco, Malachi, Dilynn, Colton, Ian and Colin and his nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by our close friend, Stan Fidler, who walked beside Ed and the rest of our family every step of the way throughout his extended illness.
Our grateful thanks goes out to all medical and support staff involved in Ed's care and to the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County.
These thoughts, from Bruce and Sandra, echo the feelings of all of us who knew and loved him. From Bruce: "I knew a man. I knew a man who was one of the most patient, wise, loving, compassionate and caring persons I have ever known. I knew a man, a man who loved his family, he loved his mother, his father, his wife, his siblings, his children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends and would lay down his life for them and render aid without a second thought when needed. I knew a man. He was a farmer, a soldier, a teacher, a Chef, an artist and philosopher. He loved his country and cherished its freedoms and went to sea to defend those freedoms. I knew a man. He loved the earth and gave back to it. He loved music, art and animals. I knew a man who loved life, a good corny joke, smoked salmon, Archie Bunker and Columbo. I will be forever grateful that he was a part of my life. I knew a man." From Sandra: "He fought a long hard battle, he was an inspiration how he handled himself with what all he went through with his process. He had amazing inner strength. I will miss you so much, Sid! You were one who gave direction, good advice in every situation, you were a thinker about things, analytical and challenged opinions. You left a big footprint in our lives and we thank you."
At Ed's request, no services will be held.

Sorry to hear of Ed's passing. We became friends while attending Santa Rosa Jr College in the early sixties. I lost track of him after pursuing a career in the U S Merchant Marine, and relocating to Texas in 1969.
I'm also sorry to hear of his younger sister Candy passing.
I knew his entire family and dated his sister Toby for a short time.
