Mr. Edward A. Hargrove, 82, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at his residence.
Edward Arnold "Mickey" Hargrove was born August 30, 1942, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late John Edward and Geraldine Gray Hargrove. Edward passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with his loving wife Estella by his side.
Born and raised on Happy Hill, Edward attended Lincoln School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Edward furthered his education at North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University) in Durham, North Carolina, where he graduated with a BS Degree and became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. His career paths led him to teaching science in Goldsboro and Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to banking at Planters National Bank, where he served as Branch Manager of the Raleigh Road office. He later joined Human Resources for Abbott Laboratories and other pharmaceutical companies, which led to his residing in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Chicago, Illinois, and to traveling worldwide. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, and fishing.
Edward's Christian journey began early at Mount Zion First Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. Later he became a member and a Deacon at Springfield Baptist Church, Raleigh, North Carolina, and most recently, Edward became a member of Thornes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Estella, of the home; three sons, Edwin Reese Hargrove of New York City, Gregory Smith of Rocky Mount, and Toney Smith (Mary) of Matthews, North Carolina; his siblings, Linda Hargrove Farmer (Jimmie) of Goldsboro and Michael Gray Hargrove of Raleigh; his aunt, Katye Gray Jenkins and his uncles Samuel Gray of Rocky Mount and Joseph Gray of Nashville, North Carolina; his sisters-in-law Mary Corine Barnes and Lois Spruill of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
Edward loved and appreciated his "Special Helpers" Minnie Weaver, Twanna Hart, Celestine Greene, Melvia Batts, Veronica Dancy, and his grandson, Gregory Sumler.
A Visitation for Mr. Hargrove will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Thorne Chapel Missionary Baptist Church,1624 Windsor Drive, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Funeral Services will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
