Edward Paul "Ted" Maloney passed from this life on the 4th of July, 2024, after an unbelievably courageous battle with brainstem glioma over the past 19 months. He was at home as he had wished, and surrounded by loving family. His beloved wife Miriam, his daughter Maeve, and his son Conor will forever remember his fortitude and his steadfast focus on his family, even in the face of unfathomable challenges from his illness.
Ted was born in Norwalk, Connecticut to Mrs. Maureen Murphy Maloney and the late Dr. Paul K. Maloney on April 17, 1972. He lived in Wilton, Connecticut until his family moved to their beloved Canfield Island in Norwalk in 1977. Ted and his siblings had a truly enchanted childhood growing up on the water, and no Maloney gathering is complete without a Canfield Island story. Ted had a lifelong love of the ocean, which also extended to many cherished family trips to the uniquely special and beautiful Block Island.
Ted attended St. Thomas the Apostle School and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1990. His family made annual trips to Bromley Mountain in Vermont, and Ted was a natural on the slopes. He traded in his skis for a snowboard as soon as Tim Burton invented it and quickly became an expert level snowboarder. Bromley always held a special place in Ted's heart. As a teenager, Ted took on skateboarding with equal ease and mastery, earning him the nickname Ted Shred, which lives on to this day.
Ted's other passion was music, and he developed an encylopedic knowledge of the music genres he loved. He carried that into his college career at the University of Hartford as an enthusiastic college radio DJ at WSAM, where he made lifelong friends. Ted had a keen mind for engineering and technology, rigging up a functioning doorbell for his bedroom at the tender age of 12. He graduated from the University of Hartford in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. This was at the dawn of the internet, and his career eventually led him to the evolving field of network engineering, where he was ultimately promoted to the rank of Engineering Program Manager at Breezeline in 2022.
Ted was a Norwalk loyalist through-and-through, but decided to try out Boston in 2006, and never looked back. This Fairfield county native had always embraced Boston sports fandom and was an ardent supporter of all the Boston teams, but most especially the Red Sox. Ted cherished his Irish heritage and relished the Boston Irish scene. It was his love of all things Boston, Irish, and family, as well as his easy-going nature and sense of humor that drew him and Miriam together in 2008, within a group of friends that have stood by each other through many joys and sorrows over the intervening years. Ted and Miriam married in 2011 and initially lived in Brookline before moving to Newton in 2012, where they and their children have been blessed with the best neighbors, church community, and school for their children. The network of support that sprang up over the past year and a half defies belief and our family is forever grateful. Ted will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, dedicated son and brother, and as a kind, funny, and all-around cool guy by his many friends and colleagues.

In addition to his wife and children, Ted is survived by his mother, Maureen Murphy Maloney; his sisters, Jennifer (Peter Seka) and Paula (David Hartley), his sisters-in-law Keara (Dennis O'Leary) and Niamh (Michael Hubbard), his nieces and nephew Isabelle and Claire Seka, Grace Hartley, and Aine, Mary, and Seamus O'Leary, and countless cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and chosen family. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Paul K. Maloney, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ted Maloney can be made to Tufts Medical Center in support of the Division of Palliative Care.
The wake will be held on Monday July 8th from 3 to 7 pm at Andrew J Magni and Son Funeral Home at 365 Watertown St in Newton MA. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday July 9th at 10:30am at Our Lady Help of Christians 573 Washington St, Newton, MA 02458. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery.

Teddy was a Norwalk classmate since all the way back in the early years at St Thomas the Apostle. He was always a sweetheart and a class favorite. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. Sending prayers to the Maloney family.
