Edward Reed Olsen better known as Reed passed away on August 2, 2024. He was born on the 13th of December, 1943 in Brigham City, UT, to Paul and Helen Olsen. Reed was the embodiment of resilience and wit. His humor was infectious, and his resilience was legendary. Reed lived a life defined by his adventurous spirit, constantly seeking out the thrill of the new and unknown, from his time residing in Brigham City to his later years in Plain City, Utah.
Reed began his career as a truck driver and he was a true man of the road, spending over fifty plus years behind the wheel as a truck driver in the transportation business. He was a jack-of-all-trades in the realm of hobbies, dabbling in everything from pickleball to fishing, golfing to bowling, camping to riding his side by side. When Reed wasn't busy mastering a new pastime, he could be found cheering on his favorite baseball and football teams. As Mark Twain once said, "Humor is mankind's greatest blessing," and Reed was truly blessed, injecting his unique brand of wit and laughter into every aspect of his life.
Reed is survived by his wife, Edith Fujikawa Kelley-Olsen, and his children: Kimberly (Lloyd) Muhlestein, Erica Olsen, Rochelle (Taylor) Knudsen, Hillary (Nick) King and Jeffery Olsen. He also leaves behind his siblings: Scott (Judy) Olsen, Dale (Sharon) Olsen, David (Sherri) Olsen, Carol Anne (Tim) Malone, ten grandkids and three great-grandkids. Reed was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lund and Helen Oldham, and his first wife, Gloria Jean Fifield Olsen. As the famous humorist Erma Bombeck once said, "When humor goes, there goes civilization," and while we mourn the loss of Reed's laughter, we will strive to keep his spirit of humor alive.
Please join us in celebrating Reed's life on Wednesday, the 7th of August, 2024 at 6:00-9:00 pm and Thursday, the 8th of August, 2024 at 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel located at 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah, 84302. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, the 8th of August, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the same venue. For those who cannot attend in person, a live stream will be available at https://my.gather.app/remember/edward-olsen.
We encourage you to share your favorite memories of Reed and upload photos to the memorial page. Let's remember him as he was - a beacon of humor and resilience in a world that often takes itself too seriously.
