Edward Lee Svoboda, 76, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
He was born in La Grange, Texas on January 17, 1949 the son of Frank Henry Svoboda and Adela A. (Srubar) Svoboda. Edward married Verlene Faye Chovanec on February 24, 1968 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in
Fayetteville, Texas. Their union was blessed with love, laughter, and three daughters: Lisa Lynette Lewis, Shelley Marie Smith, and Angela Renee Svoboda. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his family. He embraced his role as a father and instilled his family values and work ethic with his children and grandchildren. He cherished his three grandchildren: Avery Anne Lewis, Austin Cole Lewis, and Lyla Cathlene Daniels.
Edward graduated from Fayetteville High School with the Class of 1967. He served as the Senior Class President and was voted Mr. Fayetteville High School. His professional career started when he relocated to Houston, Texas and began working on the docks at Central Freight Lines, eventually transitioning to driving an 18 wheeler within the city limits. He later pursued employment as an Independent Courier Driver navigating the streets of Houston he knew all too well prior to retiring in 2015. Edward resided in Lockhart, Texas since 2019.
Edward was a devoted servant to the Catholic Church. While in Houston, he attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus Council #8096. As a member and former President of the Men's Club for the parish, he annually contributed to the Church Bazaar with his culinary skills and became known for his Bar-B-Q. Edward became a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church upon moving to Lockhart, Texas. His service continued with this parish via the Knights of Columbus Council #8131.
Throughout the years, Edward connected with many people who he would come to call his friends. His hobbies and past times that he enjoyed with his friends included his bowling leagues throughout the years, camping, fishing in Texas lakes and on the coast, deer hunting, and cheering on the Houston Astros and Houston Texans. He enjoyed cultivating his backyard gardens every season and sharing his produce with friends.
Edward's departure leaves a void in the hearts of his devoted daughters, Lisa (and husband Michael Truett Lewis II), Shelley (and husband Philip Neil Smith), and Angela, and his adoring grandchildren Avery, Austin, and Lyla; his sister Joyce, and brothers Eugene, Clarence, and Michael. He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered in their hearts.
As the sun sets on Edward Lee Svoboda's life journey, we celebrate the warmth and beauty he bestowed upon the world. May his story of kindness, hard work, dedication and love be a comforting reminder of the impact one life can make. Edward's spirit will continue to flourish in the memories of those he loved and the countless lives he touched.
Edward's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Texas Oncology in Austin, the nurses and staff of Hospice Austin, and his private caregiver Shay Thigpen for their wisdom, kindness, and compassion while Edward was under their care. They went above and beyond what anyone could ever ask for during such a difficult time. The family will forever be grateful and will keep the wonderful staff in their hearts and always in their prayers.
