Edward (Eddie) Ray Szcodronski, 80, of Clyde Township, Michigan passed away while surrounded by his loved ones at the Blue Water Hospice Home in Marysville, Michigan on October 16, 2024.
Eddie was born on April 1, 1944, in Brighton, Michigan, the first child of Edward Frank and Mary Ellen (Roebuck) Szcodronski. He was raised on a small farm near Linden, Michigan and graduated the top of his class from Linden Community Schools in 1961. He continued his education at Eastern Michigan University where he obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education. Upon graduating, Eddie began teaching math at Ferndale High School and night classes at Oakland Community College. After 30 years of teaching, Eddie retired in 1995 and moved "up north" to Atlanta, Michigan on Avery Lake. Eddie and Sharon (Edgerton) Zisler were married in their home on Avery Lake on June 11, 1995.
While Eddie's career was teaching mathematics, his true passion was playing the piano and entertaining people of all ages. He first sat on a piano bench in a one-room schoolhouse at the young age of 9 years. A music teacher came to his small school once a month and gave Eddie simple exercises on the piano. He never took any more lessons and could never read music. However, his self-taught talent grew exponentially and at the age of 16 years he began playing at parties and local bars in and around Linden. He never stopped playing the rest of his life, entertaining thousands and thousands of people with his repertoire of hundreds of songs. He at times had a drummer play with him, but he played solo most of the time. He played anywhere for anyone. For just one example, he drove a school bus for the Head Start Program for children 4 years of age. He placed a small keyboard next to his driver's seat and played Christmas songs as the parents walked their child up the driveway and onto the bus. Eddie last played the piano just two weeks before his passing. He even asked to play when first arriving at the hospice house, but unfortunately, it never happened.
Eddie began going to the Lewiston area in the late 1960s. He loved riding snowmobiles and motorbikes on the trails. He mostly enjoyed sharing his recreation vehicles and guiding family members, friends, and co-workers throughout the extensive trail system. If not on the trails, you would find Eddie giving people rides on his pontoon and wave runners. Due to his failing health, Eddie and Sharon moved from Avery Lake to the Port Huron area in the summer of 2021.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Frank and Mary Ellen (Roebuck) Szcodronski; his brothers, Tom Szcodronski of Bellaire, Michigan and Bruce Szcodronski of Chelsea, Michigan, and his step-daughter Jennifer (Zisler) Brown of Avoca, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his sister, Charlene Helble (Edward) of Okemos, Michigan; his brother, Kevin Szcodronski (Holly) of Ankeny, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Karen Szcodronski of Bellaire, Michigan and Teri Szcodronski of Manchester, Michigan; his step-children, Scott and Lisa Zisler of China Township, Mike Brown of Avoca, Michigan, Darrin and Alexis Zisler of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Jason and Karen Zisler of Avoca, Michigan; grandchildren, Shaun (Angie) Zisler, Chad (Tiffany) Zisler, Justin (Tiffani) Zisler, Tyler Zisler, Parker Zisler, Brendan (Emily) Zisler, Lauryn Zisler, Michael (Sarah) Brown, Ryan (Brenda) Brown, and Cory Boudreaux, and great-grandchildren Bo, Elizabeth, Branson, Oaklee, and Arabella, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A memorial service will not be held. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for family and close friends to reflect on Eddie's life filled with giving and joy.
For those wishing to give a memorial gift in tribute to Eddie, the family asks that you send a donation of behalf of Eddie Szcodronski to the Elk County Animal Shelter, 11484 Youngs Road, P.O. Box 434, Atlanta, MI 49709.

So very sad to see this posting. I am one of "Mr. Skids" students from FHS class of 1976. He was my teacher for my Freshman year (Algebra), and then again for my Sr. year (College Algebra and Analytical Geometry. He was an amazing teacher. Tough, but he could really teach and explain. I was in the FHS pep band and we played with Mr. Skid at one of the assemblies. We had a very special class and he took us out for pizza at the end of our Sr. year. We (Ed Ahlquist, Igor Koroleff, Bryan Atkinson) saw Mr. Skid at one of the class reunions (maybe 30th), and then we visited him up North for Lunch about 8 years ago, and he showed us his beautiful cabin, and took us for a ride on his Pontoon. A very special visit. We lost touch since then and were trying to reach him. Last night we came across this obit and were heart broken. My mother (Marilyn Ahlquist) was a secretary at FHS in the front office and was very good friends with Mr. Skid. He really watched out for her. Mr Skid was 1 in a million teacher and person and had a huge positive impact on our lives. I hope to find a few pics and post them.
