Jay Allen Monday, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Harrison Township, Michigan, on August 17, 2025.

Born October 5, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Jay lived a full life defined by intelligence, kindness, humor, and love for his family.

The son of John D. and Ida Monday. Jay grew up with a natural curiosity and a mind for engineering. He earned a degree in Engineering and went on to build a remarkable career. Jay owned and operated Drill Head Design before joining Lamb Engineering, where his brilliant work designing machines for the automotive industry made him highly sought after. Even after retirement, his expertise was in demand, and he continued consulting as an independent contractor. There wasn't much he couldn't build, design, or fix.

At the time of his passing, Jay was surrounded by his wife, Catherine; his children, Dione and Mark; his daughter-in-law Jennifer; his son-in-law Ahmed; and his grandson, DJ. He was a proud father of six and a grandfather to twelve. His grandchildren were his greatest joy, whether on trips to the nature center with DJ, enjoying ice cream, or sharing a laugh, Jay found happiness in the simplest of moments.

Outside of work, Jay's greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a talented athlete and a huge baseball player in his younger years, playing semi-pro ball and carrying that love for the game throughout his life. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating and was an active member of both a bowling league and a golf league for many years. More than anything, Jay valued experiences and time spent with the people he loved most, creating memories that will live on in those who shared them with him.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as easygoing, patient, and deeply caring. Jay never spoke a harsh word about anyone, met people without judgment, and stood by his loved ones unconditionally. He had a sharp, sarcastic sense of humor and a gift for making people feel at ease. His legacy is not only in the machines he designed, but also in the countless lives he touched with his love and gentle spirit.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Monday, and his brother, Gary Monday.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, his children, his grandchildren, and many friends who will carry his memory forward.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, and Jay will be cremated according to his wishes. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Kaat Funeral Directors, Mt. Clemens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), a cause close to his heart.

Jay was loved by everyone who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed.
