Edwin Lee Moore

Edwin Lee Moore, 81, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at a local nursing home. He had complications from Parkinson's disease.

Born in Charlottesville, the son of Massie Smith Moore and Nellie Jones Moore, he graduated from McIntyre High School and the University of Virginia, and served in the Marine Corps during World War II and in the Naval Reserve during the Korean War. He spent many years in Washington D.C., where he worked as a hotel auditor and manager and as a Congressional aide. On returning to Charlottesville, he was a bookkeeper until his retirement several years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Moore Allison of Rockville, Maryland, and Martha Moore of Silver Spring, Maryland; by two granddaughters, Erika Moore of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Kayce Allison of Sterling Virginia; by two brothers, Kenneth Moore and his wife, Veneta, and Franklin Moore and his wife, Linda, of Scottsville, Virginia; by two former wives, Jean Sadler Surgi of Rockville, Maryland, and Edith Y. Parrish of Front Royal, Virginia; and by a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the Tyler family, his friends and loving caregivers - Tony and Bonnie and most especially Lee Ann.

A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, he served for many years as Church Treasurer and also led Bible classes. For many years he was active in prison ministries in Charlottesville and elsewhere.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Southside Church of God, 1807 Avon Street Ext., Charlottesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Calvary Baptist Church, 1675 Avon Street Extended, Charlottesville, VA 22902; to the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136-1494; or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911.
