In Loving Memory of Edwin Verde
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Alcantara Verde, affectionately known as Winnie. He is survived by his loving wife, Annie; his children, Amanda and Carlo; and his grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Dylan, Aviana, and Adrian.
Born in 1953 in Manila, Philippines, Edwin was the sixth of eight children of Bienvenido and Rizalina. He treasured his childhood memories on the family farm in Tuguegarao, where he grew up. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Orlando, and is survived by five siblings: Bobby, Tony, Danny, Ruby, and Sonny.
Edwin earned a degree in Agricultural Economics from Araneta University. His green thumb was remarkable; he was known as a "plant whisperer," sharing his expertise with friends and family alike. In 1976, he moved to the United States. Three years later, he met Annie, the love of his life. They married in 1982 and eventually settled in Novato, California. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising two children and cherishing the joy of their five grandchildren. The couple shared a deep bond, often found together. They reveled in their annual trips to Hawaii to celebrate their anniversary.
A proud veteran of the Air Force Reserves, Edwin dedicated 25 years to serving his country. He enjoyed traveling, sports, and collecting "priceless" artifacts, but his greatest joy came from his grandchildren. They loved spending time snuggling with Pop-Pop and Grandma and they will miss him dearly.
To honor Edwin's memory, a celebration of his life will be held on November 2, 2024, at Valley Memorial in Novato from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Edwin requested that those in attendance remember him with joy rather than sorrow. Please join us in wearing non-black attire-Hawaiian shirts are especially welcome-as we celebrate his life with laughter and lightness.
We invite everyone to share memories, photos, or anecdotes on the day of his memorial. We will have a designated table to display any contributions.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Research Institute in Edwin's memory would be appreciated.
Though we mourn his passing, we will forever cherish the memories he leaves behind. May we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in our hearts and in the countless lives he touched.
